Chains (ἅλυσις) were seen as the representation of the eternity and especially the eternal love.
There is no beginning and no end, and they have been a very important part of all the existing jewellery in ancient time.
Chain is first mentioned by Aristophanes as a woman’s ornament.
It is a symbol of connection and attachment; a powerful and lasting unity between entities. It shouldn’t be a big surprise, as they consist of circles, that are linked together.
